The US is facing the lowest rate of labour force participation since the 1970s, with 105.8 million people out of the workforce, as of June 2026.
Despite the most recent Bureau of Labour Statistics survey in June reporting a 4.2% unemployment rate, the share of Americans ages 16 and older out of the workforce is 38.5%.
