The US and Japan intervened to stop the yen from further devaluing, with plans for more joint action in the future, depending on whether the Federal Reserve will loan Japan US dollars to buy more yen.
The decision could be impactful since Japan holds more US debt than any other country and there are fears that a major sell-off by Japan would devalue treasuries and raise the cost of borrowing globally, and effect fixed income.
