Andrew Putwain: Can you introduce yourself, your role, and what Artificial Intelligence (AI) use cases are most relevant to your world?
Mark Gillan: I’m Head of Investment Operations at Scottish Widows. My role spans a few areas: fund and platform operations, data and analytics, customer disclosure, and I also manage the investment change team.
In terms of AI use cases, in practice, the ones that I tend to be interested in are the ones that make operational work more efficient, that improve the quality of data flow, help colleagues get meaningful insights faster, and deliver better customer outcomes.
The most relevant use cases are not flashy ones. There are things like summarising complex operational information and data sets, identifying exceptions or inconsistencies in data, helping colleagues navigate large volumes of unstructured documentation, and giving people faster access to the context they need to make decisions.
For operations, as is true with many different things, the value from AI, the use cases, is cumulative. This means small gains in processes, which add up to something transformational.
Mark Gillan will be speaking at Insurance Investor Live | Europe in September in London. See the agenda and how to register HERE.
