A few weeks ago, a report said that data centres presented an accumulation and concentration risk for both underwriting and investment activities of insurers.
Last week, amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Iran began targeting commercial datacentres in the UAE and Bahrain, which signalled a new frontier in asymmetric warfare.
According to media reports, it was believed to be the first deliberate targeting of a commercial data centre by the armed forces of a country at war.
While much of the coverage has subsequently focused on oil prices, it has revealed a new front. Infrastructure is one of the highest-cost and biggest potential areas of investment for institutional allocators over the coming years, as technological shifts enable new opportunities.
