Eight months ago, an American reporter asked the American President why a portrait of James Monroe hangs in the Oval Office.
“I think the Monroe Doctrine was pretty important”, said Donald Trump in response.
Monroe, the fifth American President, in his own doctrine, later coined the “Monroe Doctrine”, which asserted that Americans would ensure that the Western Hemisphere would be free of European influence and or colonisation.
Months after the interview at the White House, Donald Trump announced his own strategy, similar to that of Monroe.
Coined the “Donroe Doctrine” by the author himself, the doctrine has seen renewed interest in South America and 19th-century grand strategy.
