Data centre risks are still accumulating, with multiple new studies and reports highlighting the issues that range from flood exposure to their new status as key infrastructure and therefore a target in war and terrorism.
This matters for investment teams at insurers as the funding models for data centres are evolving, and could also be key as the hype around data centres shows no signs of abating, but the risks are accumulating.
The effects of this were discussed in a new AM Best report; it said the proliferation of data centre projects offers an opportunity for the property and casualty (P&C) industry to develop property and liability coverages amid the increasing demand.
