Regulators do not judge insurers on the 19 times things go right. They judge them on the one time things go wrong. That was the starting point for Corwin (Cory) Zass, Founder and Principal of Actuarial Risk Management (ARM), as he walked an industry audience through the unravelling of 777 Re.
"They don't care what happens 19 times. As long as you're not ripping someone off, you know they care about that one time," said Zass.
Zass spoke last week at Insurance Investor Live | Europe in London, where he explained his involvement with the 777 Re event.
Zass was called in during November 2023 and said he would stay with what is already public, given the lawsuits that followed. "I want to make it very, very clear that I'm not going to delve into anything that really isn't public," said Zass.
But what he focused on showed some deep issues in the market as well as areas that almost no one could’ve predicted.
