MS Amlin appoints new Head of Investments

Emma Snowdon will be responsible for leading the company’s capital modelling, capital strategy, and investment portfolio management initiatives.

London-based re/insurer MS Amlin has appointed Emma Snowdon as Head of Capital Management and Investments.

In its statement on the new role, MS Amlin’s press release said Snowdon would be responsible for leading the company’s capital modelling, capital strategy, and investment portfolio management initiatives, supporting the organisation’s long-term growth objectives, and financial resilience.

She will be based in London and report to Chief Finance Officer, Jessie Burrows.

MS Amlin Underwriting is a global re/insurer, part of the global top MS&AD group, with operations in the Lloyd’s of London, Middle East, and Asia markets. The firm specialises in marine insurance.

Snowdown has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, and, said MS Amlin, “has a strong background in oversight of capital management, financial strategy, and investments in addition to financial risk management and reserving”.

“She will play a crucial role in supporting our ambitious growth plans, ensuring we have the financial strength and agility to expand our market presence and seize new opportunities,” said Burrows. “Her appointment underscores our commitment to building a robust, resilient business, underpinned by a solid capital base and a disciplined, strategic investment approach.”

She joins MS Amlin from UK consumer insurance brand Direct Line Group where she spent over a decade, most recently serving as Director of Insurance and Financial Risk. In this role, she was responsible for leading financial and insurance risk oversight across the Group, ensuring a robust second line of defence. Prior to this, she was Head of Insurance Risk at the company.

Before joining Direct Line Group, Snowdon was the Global Corporate and Discontinued Business Actuarial Business Partner at Zurich Insurance, leading the reserving teams for the Global Corporate and Discontinued businesses, as well as supporting regulatory compliance.

She started her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), as a consultant in the Non-Life Actuarial Department. She led the reserving, audit, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) assignments for a range of clients and provided actuarial guidance for Schemes of Arrangement and Part VII transfers.

Other recent investment hirings include CCR Re, the French reinsurer, appointing Sébastien Jallet as its new Head of Investment. Others in the space include Convex, which hired former GAM Investment staffer, David Dowsett, as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Juan Bernal taking on the role at MAPFRE after a top table reshuffle.
