Andrew Putwain: As the winner of the Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Insurance Asset Management Industry at the recent Insurance Investor | European Awards 2024, can you talk to me about the setup of investment teams more broadly and what they need in order to succeed?

James Mitchell: The Venture ecosystem, particularly in the UK, over the last 10 years, has advanced tremendously in the context of investment teams being established, aligned, and set up for success.

Part of that is the successive levels of capital becoming available at higher flywheels so that the money is there and as a result, there are available resources to further develop companies at each stage in the capital raising process.

Another part of that is an acceptance that the UK is, and continues to be, a place where you could come to do those roles and be successful. This is due to factors such as the emigration of talent from other cities globally.
