Ahead of the Rendez-Vous de September in Monte Carlo next month, how are the odds looking for Europe's 'Big Four'?

The four largest European reinsurers – Swiss Re, Munich Re, Hannover Re, and SCOR – have reported solid financial performances in 2024, according to a report by AM Best released ahead of the Rendez-Vous de September in Monte Carlo next month, rounding up their recent performance.

Despite ongoing changes in the market and shifting macroeconomic conditions, the companies have managed to maintain market profitability, improve underwriting performance, and deliver consistent outputs, with some variance in individual results.

AM Best’s paper provided a snapshot of the year so far for the group. Most are seeing good results; however, outliers are causing concern. Results in 2024 for some were better than 2023, but still lacked dynamism to recover fully.
