Extinction Rebellion is to protest rugby matches amid accusations of sportwashing by insurers. What could it mean for investments?

Allianz’s sponsorship of the UK rugby competition has been used against them by the environmental pressure group Extinction Rebellion, which will be protesting against the insurer’s fossil fuel investment at this weekend's Premiership final of Premiership at Twickenham Stadium.

Extinction Rebellion has highlighted Allianz’s investments in fossil fuels as “fuelling the climate chaos”, which is affecting many parts of the world. It argues that the company is acting hypocritically by presenting a leaner, more responsible image while continuing to support high-emissions industries.
