China's regulator is allowing the investment in gold by insurers - but why? And what will it earn them?

Several Chinese major insurers have been allowed to invest in gold for the first time due to the slump in other alternative assets in the country.

The news said that China’s regulator has granted ten insurance companies, including PICC Property & Casualty and China Life Insurance, approval to invest as part of a pilot programme, reported Bloomberg.
